about

Throughout 2010 and early 2011 Neil had the tape rolling at virtually every live solo performance. Recorded live at a basement show and a concrete art space, Iron Creek captures two recordings in two very specific environments. As a follow-up to Neil's early 2011 solo release Boxwork, Iron Creek hits hard with all the energy of Neil's live solo shows. The tracks Figure of Eight and Hollow Braid are two stunning interpretations of the knotted, gnarled saxophone sound he's come to be know for. The cyclic phases and raspy tones create amazing acoustic distortions from start to finish. Recorded in two unedited, lengthy improvisations in stereo and mono, the tracks on Iron Creek were picked by Neil himself.

about

Saxophonist Neil Welch is hell-bent on creating music of lasting importance. His solo and collaborative projects mirror his explorative approach to the saxophone. “An impassioned tenor player, he combines mysticism with ferocity” (Downbeat).
